Faith Awareness and Religious Equality Training

As one of the Equality Act 2010’s protected characteristics, religion and belief is a topic vital for employers and staff to understand.  In modern Scotland there is a rich diversity of religious communities, each with its own diversity of traditions, values and beliefs. Anyone providing a public service will struggle to work sensitively with these groups without a good foundation of knowledge.  This is especially true of service providers who work with clients in their homes, where a great many cultural and religious values are expressed.

Our training courses will explain the relevant equality legislation and outline the duties that impact upon organisations and staff. We will provide current, accurate information about the demographics of Scotland’s faith communities and outline the core beliefs of the largest groups. We can also examine the particular contexts in which you engage with your service users, and identify the areas that are most likely to be sensitive such as food preparation, clothing or gender. We can also discuss the workplace itself, your organisational policies and investigate ways to ensure staff engage with each other in an inclusive and sensitive manner.

In recent months we have delivered training courses and workshops to the
following organisations:

North Lanarkshire Council (five sessions)

College Development Network

South Lanarkshire College (two sessions)

Perth and Kinross Community Equality Advisory Group

Glasgow City Council Equality Group
