Members of the Muslim, Baha’i and Christian communities in East Kilbride, came together in November 2015, for ‘Time for Reflection on Care for the Environment.’ With the COP21 Paris summit on climate change happening so close to Scottish Interfaith Week it was an ideal opportunity to reflect upon what the world’s faith traditions have to say about the world and humanity’s part in that. During the event passages of scripture from the world’s faiths were read and there was time for personal reflection using images of the natural world and quotations from secular and religious leaders. Pupils from Duncanrig Secondary School had contributed a series of posters depicting thoughts on the environment from seven world religions and Humanism.
Dr Lisa Cameron MP, Shadow Spokesperson on Climate Justice, spoke of the opportunities she had had to meet people in Africa and discover the impact of climate change first hand. She encouraged those gathered to do what they could do to reduce their negative impact on the environment. Linda Fabiani MSP spoke of the important role of faith communities in Scotland and shared information with the group about the Scottish Government’s response to the refugee crisis.
